VAYU introduces the new Aura V5, the latest generation of its Wave, Freefly and Freeride wing. Rather than completely changing the character of the Aura, VAYU has focused on refining the existing platform with a new seam layout, updated materials, increased structural stiffness and stronger low-end performance.
According to VAYU designer Bill Hansen, the Aura V5 retains the familiar shape and playful handling of the previous Aura while introducing significant changes underneath the surface. New radial wingtip seams and revised spanwise seams are designed to direct tension more precisely through the canopy. The goal is a cleaner and more responsive wing while simultaneously improving strength and durability.
New TRI-FORM 3X Leading Edge
One of the major technical updates is VAYU’s TRI-FORM 3X Leading Edge construction. The system combines ALUULA with different Dacron materials to create a structure designed to balance stiffness, weight, durability and controlled flex.
At the center of the Leading Edge, VAYU uses ALUULA Aeris FX-86, where stiffness and load transfer are particularly important. According to VAYU, the construction reduces deformation under load and is intended to improve acceleration, upwind drive and control while maintaining a light and reactive feel.
More Low-End Power
The Aura V5 also receives a slightly deeper profile, giving the wing more low-end power and drive. At the same time, the new seam layout is designed to improve load transfer and canopy support.
VAYU lists five main updates for the V5: the deeper profile, revised seam construction, the new Click Boom V2 with reinforced metal boom patches, a larger front handle area and the option of a Pistol Grip.
Click Boom V2 Comes Standard
The Click Boom V2 is included with the Aura V5. VAYU has reinforced the connection points with what it calls Metal-Matrix boom patches, creating a stiffer and more direct connection between wing and boom. Riders can alternatively use VAYU’s optional Pistol Grip system.
The boom concept remains an important part of the Aura platform, particularly for riders who prefer the freedom to move their hands without having to locate individual handles.
Aura V5 and Aura V5 LW
The regular Aura V5 covers Wave, Freefly and Freeride use, while the larger Aura V5 LW models target light-wind riding. The LW versions use a three-strut construction and an especially deep profile to increase stability and power in lighter conditions.
The complete range stretches from 2.0 m² to 7.5 m². The standard Aura V5 is offered from 2.0 through 6.5 m², while the 7.0 and 7.5 m² sizes use the three-strut LW construction. VAYU offers Blue/Grey and Orange/Grey colorways, although selected sizes are available only in Orange/Grey. The Click Boom V2 and leash are included.
Evolution Instead of Revolution
With the Aura V5, VAYU is clearly building on an established platform rather than starting again from scratch. The most significant development appears to be how the wing manages structural tension: the combination of the revised seam layout, deeper profile, mixed-material Leading Edge and reinforced boom connection is intended to produce more usable low-end power without sacrificing the forgiving and playful handling associated with the Aura.
For Wave, Freefly and Freeride riders, the Aura V5 therefore represents a refinement of VAYU’s all-around wing concept, while the larger LW versions extend the same platform into dedicated light-wind territory.
