Starboard TallTwin – Twin Fin Speed Meets Longboard Flow

Starboard TallTwin: A New Performance Longboard Blending Twin Fin Speed with Classic SUP Surf Style

Starboard is expanding its SUP surf lineup with an entirely new concept for 2027. The TallTwin introduces a fresh approach to performance longboarding by combining the glide, trim and nose-riding characteristics of a traditional longboard with the speed and looseness of a modern twin fin setup.

Rather than replacing Starboard’s established longboard range, the TallTwin is designed as a complementary option for riders looking to add a more playful, high-performance board to their quiver.

A Different Take on SUP Longboarding

The TallTwin was developed for intermediate to advanced SUP surfers who enjoy traditional longboard style but want a board that feels faster and more dynamic under their feet.

Instead of the familiar 2+1 fin configuration, Starboard has opted for a dedicated twin fin layout. According to the company, the design reduces drag, accelerates quicker and creates a noticeably looser tail, allowing riders to generate tighter turns and a more progressive surfing style while maintaining the smooth glide expected from a longboard.

The longer outline still provides stable trimming, comfortable cross-stepping and confident nose riding, making the TallTwin equally suited to stylish cruising and more aggressive wave riding.

Modern Performance Meets Classic Style

Several design elements distinguish the TallTwin from conventional SUP longboards.

Among the most notable features are:

  • Optional center nubster fin for additional grip in larger surf or for heavier riders
  • Twin fin inspired tail for faster release through turns
  • Pronounced hip and moon tail to improve pivoting and direction changes
  • Central bottom channel designed to generate speed while maintaining control
  • Vee through the tail for smoother rail-to-rail transitions
  • Flatter nose rocker to maximize glide and nose-riding stability

The overall goal is to create a board that offers more speed and freedom without sacrificing the smooth, flowing characteristics that make longboard SUP surfing so enjoyable.

Proven in Competition

Although the TallTwin introduces an unconventional concept, it has already demonstrated competitive potential.

During the Bali LSR 2025, the board claimed victories in three divisions:

  • Elite Men: Zane Schweitzer
  • Elite Women: Ke’ale Dorries
  • Weekend Warriors: Pete Cox

Those results suggest the design is equally capable in both elite competition and recreational surfing.

Two Construction Options

The TallTwin will be available in two construction technologies.

The premium Carbon Reflex construction focuses on maximum responsiveness, lightweight performance and fast recoil through turns using high-grade biaxial carbon and PVC rail stringers.

For riders looking for durability and everyday performance, the XTEC Carbon construction combines Carbon Load Frame Technology with reinforced stringers and targeted carbon placement to balance flex, strength and longevity.
