Lake Ohrid SUP Crossing Celebrates 5th Anniversary with Exciting New Race Format
Ohrid, North Macedonia – The highly anticipated Lake Ohrid SUP Crossing (L.O.S.C.) is set to celebrate its 5th anniversary with a special edition featuring three distinct race categories. Organized by Paddle Klub, this year’s event will introduce the much-awaited Technical Race, alongside the established 23km Long-Distance Race and the 26km SUP Adventure for recreational paddlers.
The action-packed weekend will take place on July 19-20, 2025, bringing together stand-up paddlers from around the world to experience the breathtaking beauty of Lake Ohrid while competing in thrilling challenges.
New for 2025: The Technical Race (July 19, 2025)
For the first time in L.O.S.C. history, paddlers will have the opportunity to showcase their technical skills in a high-energy buoy course race. Open to both hardboard and inflatable SUPs, the Technical Race will push competitors to navigate between buoys in a fast-paced, action-packed format.
This new category has been highly requested by past participants and promises to be a spectator favorite, delivering edge-of-your-seat excitement.
Note: The start locations for the Technical Race and the Long-Distance Race are different.
The 23km Long-Distance Race (July 20, 2025)
A true endurance test, the Long-Distance Race will see paddlers tackle a 23km flatwater course, with a standing water start marked by Mistral buoys. With two mandatory checkpoints and a final sprint to the city of Ohrid, this race demands strategy, stamina, and speed.
Last year’s race saw a thrilling finish, with the top three paddlers crossing the finish line within a minute of each other. The current course record is under 2:30h, set by Luka Kozar. The race has a 5-hour cut-off time.
Note: The start locations for the Long-Distance Race and the Technical Race are different.
The 26km SUP Adventure (July 20, 2025)
For those seeking a more relaxed yet immersive SUP experience, the 26km SUP Adventure offers a guided paddle along the stunning coastline of Lake Ohrid. Designed for recreational paddlers, this non-competitive group event lasts 6 to 8 hours, depending on conditions and group size.
The 2024 edition welcomed paddlers from 14 different countries, highlighting its global appeal. Participation is limited to 100 paddlers, and all participants must follow the designated route along the coastline, staying within 50m of the shore. Safety is a priority, with Red Cross-trained rescue and first aid personnel accompanying the group by boat.
Note: The Start and Finish locations are different for this category.
