ISLA CRISTINA, Spain – Registration is now officially open for the European SUP Race Isla Cristina 2026, the fifth stop of the European SUP League (ESL). The event will take place from September 4–6, 2026, bringing international Stand Up Paddle racing to Spain’s Costa de la Luz for the first time.
Hosted at Playa Central in Isla Cristina (Huelva), the event will feature two official European SUP League disciplines—Sprint and Technical Race—and offer a total prize purse of €6,000.
Isla Cristina Joins the European SUP League Calendar
The Andalusian coastal town makes its debut on the European SUP League schedule, adding another international destination to the rapidly growing circuit. Following successful events in Santa Pola, Taranto, Zurich, and Poland, the stop in Huelva marks the beginning of the final stretch of the 2026 season before the series concludes one week later in Sesimbra, Portugal.
Organizers expect more than 200 athletes representing over 20 countries, highlighting the continued growth of European SUP racing.
Sprint and Technical Race Headline the Competition
Elite athletes will compete in two official disciplines over the weekend.
On Saturday, September 5, competitors will battle in the explosive 200-meter Sprint Race, where acceleration, power and head-to-head racing determine the winners.
The action continues on Sunday, September 6, with the Technical Race, also known as the Beach Race. The course, measuring between 500 and 1,000 meters, combines beach starts and finishes, buoy turns and technical maneuvering, making it one of the most spectator-friendly formats in SUP racing.
A total of €6,000 in prize money will be awarded, with €3,000 allocated to each discipline.
Racing Opportunities for Every Age Group
Registration is open across a wide range of competitive categories, including U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, Open, Senior, Masters 40+, Masters 50+ and Masters 60+. Competitors can register for either the Sprint Race, the Technical Race or both disciplines.
In addition to the elite competition, the event will feature amateur races designed for recreational paddlers of all experience levels.
Three Days of SUP Action
Activities begin on Friday, September 4, with athlete accreditation, the official event presentation, coaching clinics, masterclasses led by professional paddlers and a welcome party.
Saturday’s schedule includes the Sprint Race, amateur competitions and family-friendly beach activities before the first awards ceremony.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with the Technical Race, additional amateur events and the overall awards presentation. Organizers note that the schedule may be adjusted depending on weather conditions.
Another Important Stop in the ESL Championship
As the fifth event of the 2026 European SUP League, Isla Cristina could play a decisive role in the overall championship standings. With only the season finale in Sesimbra, Portugal, remaining after Spain, every point earned in Huelva will be crucial for athletes chasing the European title.
The European SUP League, promoted by the European Surfing Federation, continues its mission of strengthening professional SUP racing across Europe while bringing together athletes, clubs, national federations and organizers under one unified championship structure.
