CODE Foil goes to Switzerland

🇨🇭 CODE in Switzerland: From Travel Fatigue to Alpine Stoke ⛰️

After two weeks of non-stop travel, foiling, and what felt like a dozen plane rides, we were running low on energy and dreaming of our own beds. But as every good trip story goes—just when we thought we were done, Switzerland had other plans.

First Stop: Zug — Flatwater Foil Paradise

We picked up our “large” rental car in Zurich… which wasn’t quite large enough for all our gear. So, with foils strapped creatively to the roof, we hit the road straight to Zug for the Code Foils Flatwater Demo Day.

Any exhaustion disappeared the moment we stepped out of the car. Picture this: a crystal-clear lake surrounded by snow-dusted mountains, a buzzing dock full of locals, and a foil scene that was absolutely firing. The dock-start community welcomed us like old friends, and the level of riding? Unreal. We were instantly inspired.

After watching the locals bust out trick after trick, we couldn’t resist jumping in. The 1250R and 1540S setups were the crowd favorites, paired with the 75 Plus mast and short fuses—so naturally, we followed suit. Wetsuit on, nerves high, and with the coaching support of what felt like 10 locals, I attempted my first dock start.

And then another.

And another…

Twenty or so splashes later—success! The cheers from the dock made it feel like I’d just won an Olympic medal. A celebration with a cold Swiss beer was definitely in order.

Josh followed, nailing it in half the attempts, and then Marcus sealed the deal on his fifth try. Victory all around!

Next Up: Wake Foiling with a View

The afternoon evolved into another first: wake foiling on a lake. Behind a boat. In the mountains. With snow. It felt like a scene from a dream.

We grabbed the 850S—perfect for matching the energy of the wake—and dialed in some smooth carves before Josh started throwing airs off the wake as the sun dipped behind the Alps. Absolutely surreal.

A massive thanks to Andy from Foilever for making that magic happen. With frozen toes and full hearts, we ended the day driving 1.5 hours to Jonas’s house, arriving at 11pm after leaving France at 4am. Epic.

Day Two: Bern — Bigger Crowd, Bigger Stoke

Refueled by breakfast and laughs from Jonas’s hilarious kids, we packed the car again and headed out for Day 2 of the Code Demo, this time on the dock near Bern. But first—a quick detour to the Swiss Alps. For us ocean lovers, standing on a mountaintop felt like a Swiss person staring down a massive swell. Wild, beautiful, slightly terrifying.

After carb-loading at a local bakery, we rolled into Bern’s lakeside dock. The scene? Even bigger than Zug. Word had clearly spread (maybe about Josh’s new dock-start trickery), and the stoke was contagious.

We spent hours foiling, chatting gear, trading tips, and connecting with riders from all over. The 1540S and 1250R were again the go-to wings. After a few splashy warmups, we were back in the groove—and back in the air.

The evening wrapped up with the holy trifecta of Swiss living: cheese fondue, cold beer, and good conversation. By the time we got to bed—after some well-earned pizza—it was our deepest sleep in two weeks.

Final Day: Bears, Chocolate, and Goodbyes

Our first real “day off” in weeks took us into the heart of Bern, where we roamed the old town, saw the famous city bears, ate way too much chocolate, and soaked in the European charm.

As we packed up for the final leg home, we couldn’t help but reflect. The dockside vibes, the generosity of the community, the jaw-dropping alpine scenery—it all added up to something truly special.

Massive thanks to Jonas for hosting us like family, Andy and Sorin from Foilever for the warm welcome and boat rides, and to every single person who came out to the demos. You made us feel right at home in the heart of Switzerland.

We came for a demo—but left with memories, new skills, and a community we can’t wait to return to.

Until next time, Switzerland. We’re hooked.
