Here on Maui we don’t really need to master dock starts. We have waves and wind to get us up on foil. However, the other evening there was really nothing else to do and I recently discovered a natural place where the conditions were near perfect to try out a dock start or in this case a rock start.
To say the least: It was not easy and on top of it I was using the wrong gear. I been foiling for 4 years now and got used to smaller foils. For some reason I thought I could do a dry start with my everyday 1225cm2 front wing. I think I was dead wrong. Next time I return with the biggest beginner foil I can find.
