BOHINJ – a unique, charming, wonderfully mysterious region in Slovenija.
Bohinj is located in the heart of the Julian Alps. The most extensive and highest mountain range in Slovenia is also the most south-eastern part of the Alps. Bohinj encompasses the valley of Nomenj, the Upper and Lower Bohinj Valleys, lake basin, the Pokljuka and Jelovica plateaus and a high mountain range.
The most recognizable and astonishing natural site is Lake Bohinj, the biggest lake in Slovenia. The twenty-four villages in and above the valley hide the attractive riches of the past, the cheerfulness of the present and the mystery of the future. Bohinj abounds in unique natural beauties and spectacular landscapes.
And surprisingly – the village Bohinj doesn’t really exist, don’t try to find it in Google maps. It’s like heaven – you got no idea where to search for it, yet you know once you’re there.
For the fifth time Bohinj SUP Challenge got the place this year on Lake Bohinj.
It’s called ‘a Challenge’, even if at first sight nature looks calm, valley seems peaceful and water flat as a mirror… Yet, Bohinj SUP Challenge has got its pepper too. East wind can occur and make your paddling downwinder, strong north-west wind can bring storms from over the mountains or sun could try hard to melt you and make you struggle for the shadow. And Bohinj SUP challenge has already offered all of above.
Last couple of years event seated on August 15th, every year on the same date. It’s public holiday in Slovenija work-free bank holiday, so locals, Austrians, Croats and here-and-there from various other countries, paddles come to share passion with like-minded. This year, despite Covid situation, 55 paddlers came to this Alpine pearl to beat competitors on the water and do a friendly chat on land…because this is what Bohinj really is about.
Great spirit, super-friendly organization team with numerous volunteers, local paddlers with different milage willing to learn and share experiences, fabulous environment and amazing local food.
Every year we notice more and more young guns on their first steps on sup boards. They start the first, and it’s while Elite and Fun racers are creating start line – getting their attention, support and loud cheering. You should see those proud parents too! 🙂
5th edition of Bohinj SUP Challenge wasn’t a big surprise in terms of results. We saw strong Austrian ‘army’ in Elite Men and Women category, where Christian Taucher and Petra Pyffrader let nobody surprised them: But, there was third place in Men Elite, where some asked ‘Who Patrik Olic is? Young Slovenian, only 20 this year, has shown a potential and super fast paddling, also made huge gap to the second Slovenian contender. Worth to mention, Damjan Petreski, the Macedonian racer, drove from Skopje to race at this event, 1.000 kilometers each way! And on Monday Morning he was at his job back in Macedonia!
Youth paddlers and Fun category also took place, almost 60 paddlers agreed it’s a ‘great social event with elements of racing’ and promised to be back in 2022 to Bohinj SUP Challenge in 6th edition.

About Organizer’s – SUP klub
Sup Klub, an ASI accredited school, is located in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The city is tightly connected with the Ljubljanica river, which provides real freshness in the summertime. It is then that the old city center by the Ljubljanica river shows the most of its unique liveliness.

No matter what your wishes connected to SUP are, either just taking one lesson or progressing to higher levels, we offer a personalized and friendly service so you can learn at your own pace, have fun and meet new friends.
Sup klub celebrates 10 years of operating and has proven highest level of services, registered racing history and success in world-wide range. Club is traditionally organizing international races in Lake Bohinj (tradition of 5 races) and in Slovenian capitol Ljubljana, where already 6 races were held. Sup klub’s president Damjan Mozina is optimistic for races-friendly 2022.
