SUP National Championship and SUP Alps Trophy Finals at Wolfgangsee
On September 26 and 27, 2026, Lake Wolfgang will once again become the gathering place for the Austrian SUP scene. The Legend of OX 2026 in St. Gilgen will feature the Austrian National Championships in sprint and long-distance racing, the finals of the SUP Alps Trophy, and the legendary race around the Ochsenkreuz. With a Kids Race and a free “Testival,” however, this SUP weekend is explicitly not just for the racing elite.
The Legend of OX 2026 (LOX) will once again bring the SUP scene together at Lake Wolfgang at the end of September. For two days in St. Gilgen, competitors will be vying for national titles, the overall victory in the SUP Alps Trophy, and, of course, plenty of fun on the water.
What makes the LOX special: While Austria’s top paddlers compete in the national championships, the traditional short-distance race around the Ochsenkreuz is a competition where recreational and amateur paddlers are expressly welcome.
“LOX is a celebration for everyone who loves stand-up paddleboarding—whether you’re an ambitious pro or an enthusiastic amateur,” explain the organizers.
In addition, there will be a Kids Race, the Riders Party, and a free SUP testival. This is intended to ensure that the Legend of OX will once again be more than just a racing event in 2026.
Saturday: Unusual Sprint Format at the SUP National Championship
Saturday, September 26, kicks off with the Austrian SUP National Sprint Championship. The Legend of OX is featuring an interesting format for the event.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., there will be a two-hour time slot during which participants can complete as many runs as they like. In the end, the fastest time recorded in each run will be the deciding factor.
This adds an extra tactical element to the race. Even if you set a good time early on, you can’t be sure of victory. If a competitor beats your best time, you have the option to get back on the board and make another attempt.
This makes the format quite different from the traditional elimination sprint and could keep things exciting until the end of the time window.
The Legendary LOX Race Around the Ochsenkreuz
After the National Sprint Championships, Lake Wolfgang will initially be the domain of young SUP athletes. The Kids Race starts at 1:30 p.m.
At 3:00 p.m., one of the weekend’s traditional highlights will take place: the LOX short-distance race around the Ochsenkreuz.
The open competition is intentionally designed as a race for everyone. So you don’t have to be an elite racer to take your place at the starting line of the Legend of OX.
The course winds past the Falkensteinwand and around the striking Ochsenkreuz against the impressive backdrop of Lake Wolfgang. The race thus combines athletic competition with what is arguably one of Austria’s most spectacular SUP settings.
After the award ceremonies, the fun continues at the Riders Party starting at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday: Long-Distance State Championship and SUP Alps Trophy Final
On Sunday, September 27, the weekend’s most important endurance race is on the schedule.
The Long Distance Race kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Two titles are up for grabs: First, the Austrian national long-distance championship titles will be awarded, and second, the race serves as the season finale of the 2026 SUP Alps Trophy.
For the drivers who have earned points toward the overall standings throughout the season, Lake Wolfgang will thus become the decisive venue in the battle for the overall title.
The awards ceremony for the Long-Distance National Championship and the SUP Alps Trophy is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Free SUP Try-Out Event on Lake Wolfgangsee
Even if you don’t want to race yourself, there’s plenty to enjoy at the Legend of OX.
On both days of the event, a free SUP testival will take place right on the event grounds. Various brands will showcase their latest gear, which visitors can try out right on Lake Wolfgang.
From all-around and touring SUPs to race boards and carbon paddles, a wide selection will be available.
Testival is open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
SUP Season Finale with a Focus on Recreational Sports
With its combination of the SUP National Championship, the SUP Alps Trophy Final, and open races, the Legend of OX remains true to its unique concept. At Lake Wolfgang, some of the country’s most ambitious racers will join recreational paddlers, young athletes, and SUP fans.
The race around the Ochsenkreuz, in particular, offers the chance to experience the atmosphere of a race for yourself without having to compete in a national championship right away.
On September 26 and 27, 2026, St. Gilgen is expected to once again become one of the most important gathering places for the SUP community in the Alpine region.
