Munich Water Days: Surf Foil World Tour Premiere

Successful Event in Munich

With the first Munich Water Days and the debut of the Surf Foil World Tour (SFT) at the Olympic Rowing Center in Oberschleißheim, Munich opened a new chapter in foil sports last weekend. Over 100 athletes from around the world came to Bavaria to compete in the E-Foil and Pump Foil disciplines. The event also marked the Surf Foil World Tour’s first official stop in Germany and immediately became one of the biggest foil events of the year.

Foil sports at the international level

The event was organized by Markos Kern in collaboration with the Surf Foil World Tour. It took place at the historic Olympic regatta course in Oberschleißheim, which was used during the 1972 Olympic Games. The Munich Water Days combined World Cup competitions with product exhibitions, test sessions, food trucks, and an extensive supporting program centered on modern water sports.

Even before the event began, the Surf Foil World Tour was calling it one of the biggest events of the season. More than 80 riders had registered early, and in the end, over 100 athletes took to the water.

E-Foil World Cup: Chait and Wicander Take the Win

In the men’s e-foil competition, Justin Chait of the United States came out on top. Second place went to Clemens Kresser of Austria, while Manel Arpa Zuriguel of Spain rounded out the podium.

Germany is establishing itself as a new foil hotspot

The success of the Munich Water Days is a striking example of how rapidly the various foil disciplines are evolving. While e-foils are already spawning their own racing series worldwide, pump foiling is also experiencing an enormous boom. The fact that the Surf Foil World Tour came to Germany for the first time is a clear sign that the German market is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers, athletes, and event organizers.

With the Olympic rowing course in Oberschleißheim, Munich also offered ideal conditions for a World Cup of this magnitude. The combination of top-level international competition, training opportunities, and a festival atmosphere made the Munich Water Days a successful debut that certainly has the potential to become a permanent fixture on the international tour calendar.

Conclusion: The first edition of the Munich Water Days was a resounding success. With over 100 athletes, World Cup action in two disciplines, and an enthusiastic crowd, it became clear that foiling is no longer a niche sport. With this event, Munich has established itself as a new venue on the international foiling map.
