Agios Nikolaos SUP Race Results

The Agios Nikolaos held last weekend was part of the ICF SUP World Cup. Just one week after the ISA Worlds in Denmark it was questionable how many people would make the trip from Copenhagen to Crete. There were not many but we recognized some. We had podiums taken by international paddlers such as Alba Frey and Blue Ewer. While Alba was already signed up for Sarasota we could not find Blue Ewers name on the list yet.

This is a short recap of the races past weekend:

The first day of the AGIOS NIKOLAOS on SUP – ICF SUP World Cup 2024 came to an exhilarating close on Friday, September 27th, with the thrilling Technical event. Athletes from 17 countries, totaling 170 competitors, gathered to showcase their skills.

In the men’s final, the race was full of twists and turns. Andrey Kraitor from Bulgaria took an early lead, but after several falls, he lost his momentum. That’s when 23-year-old Ewer Blue from Great Britain saw his chance and seized the victory, crossing the finish line in first place. Local Greek favorite Phaedon Doukas started strong in second but couldn’t fend off the pressure from fellow Greek Anastasios Tsouris and Blue. Tsouris, overcoming past injuries, surged ahead to take second, leaving Doukas in third.

The women’s final saw Spain’s Alonso Frey Alba, the reigning sprint world champion, dominate from start to finish, securing a clear victory. Meanwhile, American Paris Katniss initially held second place, but Greek contender Kyriaki Logotheti, a junior technical world champion, overtook her at the penultimate buoy. Logotheti secured second, and Katniss finished third after a fierce challenge from another Greek, Nancy Karaindrou, who ultimately placed fourth.

The second day of the AGIOS NIKOLAOS on SUP – ICF SUP World Cup 2024 was filled with adrenaline as the Sprint Race took center stage on Saturday, September 28th. With 192 participants representing a wide range of countries, the event was packed with speed, fierce competition, and unforgettable moments.

In the men’s 150m sprint, Bulgarian world champion Andrii Kraitor once again demonstrated his unmatched speed, clocking in at an impressive 00:00:38.686. His explosive pace secured him first place, allowing him to repeat last year’s triumph. Hot on his heels was his well-known rival, European champion Vadim Korobov from Lithuania, who finished in second with a time of 00:00:40.353. Kraitor, recovering from a fall in the previous day’s Technical race, came back stronger than ever, much to the delight of the audience, who cheered wildly for his thrilling win.

Greek athlete Phaedon Doukas rounded off the podium, finishing in third with a time of 00:00:40.573. After a tough break last year, when he lost second place due to a late fall, Doukas made a triumphant return to the podium, adding a moment of pride for Greece.

Paris Katniss from the USA started strong, but under intense pressure from Logotheti, she lost her rhythm and narrowly missed out on a podium finish, ending up in fourth.
