SUP World Ranking Update

The SUP World Rankings have been updated. All you SUP Race lovers will be excited about the changes in the top ten we been following since the start of April. If some of the changes confuse you, please keep in mind this ranking is not just following the big races. The ranking system indexes races all over the world. You don’t have to follow the top races to make it into the top 10. If you want to stay in the top ten, then you should however stick with the races with biggest competition and price money.

These are the updates as of May 1st 2023 after the Carolina Cup, APP Spain and EURO TOUR World SUP Festival.

Men Longdistance

Donato Freens keeps defending the top position but Noic Garioud won 2 out of 2 EURO TOUR races and will move up rather fast. He just made the top 10 this week. Also new on the list is “Shrimpy” just getting started with his season.

Women Longdistance

The gap between Espe Barreras and the rest of the field keeps growing fast. Despite her 2nd place at the Carolina Cup Duna Gordillo is moving down 2 spots. The big runner up is Cecillia Pampinella going from 6th place to 2nd. Women SUP racing has become very exciting this season. Particularly looking at the ladies fighting for the spot behind. Esperanza. Alba Frey arrived in the top 10 with a fantastic result at the EURO TOUR.

Men Tech. Race

The APP Tour race in Spain was the first big Tech. Race of the season. We still have one Thai-Paddler hanging on to the top ten from a race result earlier this year. The points of Connor and Noic also give us an idea on how much a win and 2nd place are worth in a top ranked race. (We are also happy to see the World Ranking is indexing this race as Tech. Race and NOT a Sprint Race as communicated by the APP. We will discuss the difference between Sprint and Tech. in a post later this week.) We see many new names on the list that are just getting started with the Tech. Race season. Runner up is Christian Andersen moving into first place backing his 3rd place at the GlaGla race up with a 5th at the APP.

Ladies Tech. Race

The APP Tour race in Spain was the first big Tech. Race of the season. We still have one Thai-Paddler hanging on to the top ten from a race result earlier this year. The points of Fiona Wylde and Melanie Lafenetre also give us an idea on how much a win and 2nd place are worth in a top ranked race. Juliette Du Haime arrives on the 3rd place with already a win under her belt at the Tech. Race in Sayulita back in March. (We are also happy to see the World Ranking is indexing this race as Tech. Race and NOT a Sprint Race as communicated by the APP. We will discuss the difference between Sprint and Tech. in a post later this week.)

Men Sprint Race

We are still looking at a pretty much unchanged sprint race chart from the start of the season. Most results stem from the Elephant Boat Race in Bangkok earlier this year. The new comers are from a SUP Race in New Zealand that has mostly gone unnoticed. (But not for the World Ranking) We yet have to see a sprint race with a large international participation.
