We are sad to hear that the APP Tour just had to cancel their anticipated events on Maui. Somehow this also comes at no surprise as the Delta Variant is currently raging in the State of Hawaii. Hospitals are full with sick non vaccinated people. I know this first hand it is very sad that we now have to go back to tighter restrictions. The Dukes Oceanfest also had to be cancelled and now this message is reaching us from the APP:

Hawaii Leg Cancelled As Covid-19 Delta Variant Escalates

After much discussion with the State of Hawaii, Maui County and our Partners over the past days, we have been left with no choice but to cancel the opening leg of the 2021 Tour in Hawaii that was scheduled for the 14th – 24th October.

All the reports indicate that the Delta Variant has escalated fast, and projections show the peak of this surge coming by mid October, with much tighter restrictions on events, gatherings and sporting events to come over the coming 2 months.

With the cancellation of other upcoming events, parties agreed that it would be better to err on the side of caution and with as much advance notice as possible for all concerned, with us now 60 days out. That being said, we are still working on a solution for maintaining a US stop on this year’s Tour and will update by this coming Friday to allow everyone the time to plan accordingly.

Meanwhile, it is all systems go and entries are open at www.appworldtour.com for Gran Canaria (November – Surf & Race), Paris (December – Race), Sunset (January – Surf) and the Grand Finals (Race) in February and we are hoping for the final confirmation of Morocco once the latest updates come through on their situation as it relates to the pandemic.

Please note that any registrations for Hawaii will of course either be refunded in full or transferred to the next event dependent on the wishes of each athlete.
