How secure is our international SUP race season 2021?
I’m really not so sure anymore. The news from Europe are anything but good. The borders are still closed and there is no end in sight when you can travel to the USA again. In Switzerland, they are considering canceling flights to and from Brazil and in Australia, the borders have been closed for months.
We will definitely see local races but whether there will be cross-border participation is only speculation at this time.
There is not much news from the SUP world at the moment. The ICF keeps us up to date with their world championships and raise more questions with their country ranking. We haven’t heard from the ISA for over a year. The APP has their events in the 2nd half of the year, but as an international tour there is certainly some cause for concern here. After all, without international participants, there is no international tour. WSL briefly flew their athletes in to Australia via charter flight and sent them into the 2 week quarantine there. Thus the tour in Australia could be saved.
We keep our fingers crossed and hope for an end of the pandemic this year. I would also very much like to go to the boot again in January.
