SUP World Rankings Mid Season Cut

Mid-Season Check-In: SUP Racing in 2025 – Numbers, Highs, and What’s Next

We’ve reached the halfway point of the 2025 SUP racing season, and what a ride it’s been so far. From record-breaking participation numbers to fierce competition across Europe, the last 2 months have delivered the kind of action that keeps us all hooked on the sport. Not to mention – prize money has been flowing more generously than in previous years, a sign of growth and renewed energy in the scene.

📊 By the Numbers

As of the weekend of June 6, the SUP World Rankings recorded a total of 59 SUP races around the globe. That’s far too many to cover in detail, so at Stand Up Magazin, we’ve focused on the most impactful: the big internationals, regionally significant events, and the occasional race we’re asked to support with extra coverage.

From those 59 races, 14 were rated 3 stars or higher, with five 5-star events and three 4-star events standing out on the calendar. The races with the highest participation were The Lake Rocks and the SUP Sprint Race, each drawing over 400 athletes — a remarkable turnout that confirms broad interest.

🌍 Spring Tour Frenzy

If there was one defining stretch in this first half of the year, it was without a doubt our SUPER SUP EURO SPRING TOUR. April through May delivered a stacked lineup of events across Europe. We covered every race closely, with daily updates, live feeds, and prize money tracking.

The intensity of this six-week sprint left a noticeable mark. After The Lake Rocks, which closed the Spring Tour chapter, we highlighted the lack of elite paddlers in the results. The feedback was clear: the athletes were simply exhausted. And honestly, we felt it too — chasing results, watching streams, writing summaries — weekend after weekend. It felt like compressing a full race season into a month and a half.

Now, with the Spring Tour in the rear view mirror, the scene has quieted. Many of the top athletes have returned home to rest and refocus. We don’t expect to see Shrimpy (Shuri Araki) until next at the ICF SUP World Championships. (He was not at the ISA in Denmark last year.) Until the ISA and ICF Worlds, it’s unlikely that all of the sport’s elite will line up at the same start line again.

🔢 Stand Up Magazin’s Ranking Focus

As loyal readers know, we’re big on numbers and always keep a close eye on the SUP World Ranking. That’s why we’ve compiled the top 10 paddlers in each category — by net points and average points — giving you a clearer picture of who’s really dominating the sport so far in 2025.

More on that in our detailed rankings breakdown. For now, we’ll enjoy a short breather in the racing schedule — local and regional events will keep the fire burning — before the world’s best return to clash at the pinnacle events of the year.

Men Tech. Race

There is not much to comment on these top ten Tech. Racers, things are pretty much in line the way the year went and how things were to be expected. Notably mayb, Blue Ewer is having a good year and really stepped it up from last years competitions.

There is not much to comment here, we have the undisputed worlds top ladies in the list, petty much in the order we expected them. We do see some newer names in the bottom half of the page.

Men Longdistance

This list give us the same pattern like we mostly get, Donato Freens is a very busy paddler with the most points on top. But is was again Shuri “Shrimpy” Araki who cashed in at the more important races, he also won the most price money during the 4 weeks he competed in Europe. Also notable to see Joep van Bakel in the top 10 holding it down for the master 40+ class.

Women Longdistance

We once again see the obvious top women athletes in the first 5 places, after that we have some newer names plus Susak Molinero who has been in the sport for a very long time.

Men Sprint

With Sprint races still being under represented and under appreciated, we have quite a few different names in this list. The undisputed King of SUP Sprints is Andrey Kaitor. Notably in 2nd place is Germany’s Normen Weber who did very well at the SUP Spring Race and at “The Lake Rocks”.

Women Sprint

Once again we see the worlds top paddle ladies in this list but not in the order we expected, at least not by average points. Claudia Postiglione is holding the most points per race. She got her 371 points from the 2nd place at the SUP Spring Race. The current ICF World Champ Katniss Paris is behind Alba Frey, Alba won the indoor Sprint at the Boot show where Katniss was 3rd. Alba also won the SUP Race in Melilla while Katniss won the ICF World Cup in Sitia.

Notably we see Cecilia Pampinellas name for the first time in a list in the top then. This is very much not in line with her performance from previous years. She has been absent at most races. We are not sure why, but may speculate that she has also other priories besides SUP Racing. We hope to see her back in full swing at future races.
