It was a great weekend in Spain at the Atenas Playa, in La Barrosa. Lots of smiles and great conditions for the first stop of the EURO TOUR after the indoor race back in January in Germany. The weekend was even greater for Marie Carmen Rivera and Shuri Araki. Both came off of a victory in Greece the weekend prior and showed once again why they are the top paddlers of 2025. Both of them banking another one thousand euros in prize money, adding up to €2600.- in two weekends for them.

As we are looking at the top 10 women, we are missing two strong names: Alba Frey and Esperanza Barreras. Both of them were racing the weekend before at the Triple S Festival. Turned out Alba came down with an illness and had to sit out that weekend. Esperanza went home to Fuerte, maybe she needed to regroup after loosing to Duna and Alba the week before.
Having less competition made it even easier for Marie Carmen to bank some extra money. Her biggest competition was Duna Gordillo, but Marie Carmen was faster from start to finish. She eventually crossed the finish line with 22 seconds ahead of Duna. Another Minute and 23 seconds behind Duna came Annabel Page, a relatively new name to the SUP race scene, but making a strong impression holding the flag for the UK. Maddie Leblanc, known for her work with the Paddlelogger Podcast, came in 4th, only 3 seconds behind Annabel. Maddie is most likely the first Canadian to make prize money at the EURO TOUR.

We again are missing some names in the top ten that were announced ahead of time. Like Mr. Polarbear Christian Andersen, who had just made the podium at the Triple S Festival. We also did not see the two Brazilians, Eri Tenorio and David Leao. After some digging we found out that the three were being pulled away from the race for a training camp in Santa Paola. We are not sure what to make of this, but evidently they lost out on a opportunity to make some good price money.
It was once again “Shrimpy” Shuri Araki who showed why he is the best in the world right now. After a terrible start beeing dead last, he came back on the downwind leg of the Tech. Racecourse, leaving everyone in the dust, catching every bump available for the win. The other competitors could not believe what Shrimpy pulled off.
Not only did he come back from behind, he also smoked his competition with an 8-second lead over Fernando Perez and 18 seconds over Donato Freens. Donato was able to secure his 3rd place and a €400 payday, just 2 seconds ahead of Arthur Arutkin. These two seconds cost Arthur €100.-

Overall, the top 5 are mixed up a bit differently than we would have guessed—particularly the great performance by Blue Ewer, who secured the last spot for prize money, beating Aaron Sanchez and Antonio Serrera. Not an outcome we would have bet our money on.
