HONOLULU, HI (March 14, 2025) – The Molokaʻi-2-Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships, presented by the United States Coast Guard, is set to return this summer, taking place over the last two weekends in July. The event will welcome an international field of athletes across three divisions: traditional paddleboarding (Prone), stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and FOIL.
Online registration opens this Saturday, March 15, at 7:00 AM HST (Hawaii Standard Time) and closes on Sunday, April 6, at 11:59 PM HST. The FOIL event is scheduled for July 20, while the paddleboard race will take place on July 27.
A true test of endurance, the Molokaʻi-2-Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships challenges athletes to conquer the depths of the Kaiwi Channel, the formidable body of water linking the Hawaiian Islands of Molokaʻi and Oʻahu. Drawing over 300 of the world’s top paddlers, this prestigious open-ocean race is considered the ultimate paddling challenge.
The M2O FOIL divisions, exclusively for solo competitors, will take place on a separate day, highlighting the sport’s rapid growth with dedicated media and event coverage. The FOIL race on July 20 will push athletes across a grueling 40-mile course, culminating in Waikiki, following the Friday Maui to Molokaʻi Challenge (M2M). Additionally, the Molokaʻi Holokai Hoʻolauleʻa will once again host athletes on the island of Molokaʻi.
The launch of registration coincides with the announcement of the 2025 Koa Kai Crown, a collaboration within the FOIL community featuring approximately 80 miles of downwind racing between July 6 and 20 across Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu. Champions of both the M2O FOIL event and the Koa Kai Crown will be honored at the M2O FOIL race finish at Kaimana Beach.
2024 was one of the fastest Ocean Races ever
The following weekend will mark the 26th edition of the historic M2O Paddleboard race, open to both solo paddlers and teams. This annual event is a deeply personal journey, testing every competitor’s physical and mental endurance. The race, which began as a “friendly challenge” between legendary Oʻahu lifeguards and watermen, has evolved into the premier paddleboarding competition, showcasing the skill and resilience of international athletes against the raw power of the Kaiwi Channel.
Capping off an exciting month of downwind paddle racing, the Molokaʻi-2-Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships will be the final major event in July. Paddlers can also plan their schedules around other iconic races, including the 45th Annual Da Hui Race (7/4), the Hawaiʻi Paddleboard Championship (7/12), and the Outrigger Canoe Club’s Cline Mann Race (7/19). More details on race opportunities can be found on the M2O website.
Due to high demand, M2O entries will be allocated through a registration window. Athletes with prior M2O experience can secure their spots on a first-come, first-served basis. First-time competitors will also register in the same manner but must submit an application for review and approval. The official start list will be posted by April 15. Spots are limited and may sell out before the registration window closes. Any entries received after the deadline or sellout will be placed on a waitlist.
Competitors are strongly encouraged to review all race details before registering. Complete information, including the registration link, is available on the official event website: Molokai2Oahu.com.
