After a great opening day that saw the completion of both qualifying and opening rounds, day 2 saw fireworks, with stand out performances from many of the top athletes on the APP World Tour.

Kicking off Round 3 in style in the Men’s division was the 2022 World Champion Benoit Carpentier from France, who posted an impressive heat score total of 15.07, with a highest scoring wave of 8.57, setting the pace for the day. His fluid, connected surfing impressed the judges, as he navigated the El Lloret line up to perfection.

The drama came in heat 3 as a seesaw battle between Sebastian Gomez from Peru and Max Torres from Puerto Rico saw the two go blow for blow, with Sebastian finally taking the heat with the highest single wave score of the day of a 9.33. However it was not over, as a priority error on the LED display panel forced a rerun of the heat, with the three athletes (that included Felipe Marden) heading out to do battle again.

It was another intense battle as Sebastian and Max battled for supremacy, with Sebastian once again getting the advantage over Max to take the win. However, both athletes advance on to the quarterfinals that are now set for tomorrow.

In the other heats, Brazilian favorites Luiz Dinis, Wellington Reis (who will have a friendly fire match up in tomorrow’s quarterfinals) and Leo Gimenes all advanced through to the quarters along with the ever impressive Taka Inoue from Japan and the tiktok superstar Guillermo Robelo from Galicia, Spain.

Quarterfinals are set for Women and Finals for U21 divisions as we anticipate a spectacular day of action for tomorrow

Just two Women’s heats were held today to determine the quarterfinals for tomorrow, as long time APP World Tour competitor Aline Adisaka earned her spot after an exhausting last minute journey from El Salvador for the event. Also winning her repechage heat was the ever improving Camille Dubrana from France, moving on to face the Argentinian stand out Luchy Cosoleto, who has, as always, been on stellar form this year.

Other standouts to watch out for in the women are the local favorite and reigning World Champion Iballa Moreno, the 2022 World Champion Kaede Inoue and her sister Sakura Inoue, who are all on great form at this year’s Gran Canaria Pro-Am. However, you can never count out the young guns coming up the ranks as Julieta Rodriguez from Spain and Marine Kerdreux from France will be looking to take down the Champions and make their presences felt on Finals Day.

We also had a great showing from the U21 divisions today from both the boys and the girls, with a particular mention for Enrique Perez Serra from Cadiz, Spain, the two young French talents of Lucas Winder-Dreux and Titouan Pajot and the young Spanish talent, Julieta Rodriguez.

Day 1 at the Gran Canaria Pro Am, solid waves, perfect weather, and non-stop action! Surfers brought their A-game as the competition kicked off in style. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the event has in store!
