Zane Schweitzer, a renowned figure in the world of water sports, recently experienced a boating accident that has left our community deeply concerned. Schweitzer, a champion in both stand-up paddleboarding and windsurfing, is known for his adventurous spirit and love for the ocean.
The accident occurred while Schweitzer was out on the water, enjoying a day of boating.
The accident was severe enough to require immediate medical attention. Schweitzer was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.
Zane gave this public statemen a bit later:
“While paddling Maliko to Kahului we were surrounded by a pod of nai’a, knowing the position of our escort boat being ahead and inside of me, I got off my board to swim with the passing pod — it was beautiful. During my time on the surface watching the pod underwater while holding my arm around my board, the boat and crew noticed the pod also. They must have noticed the pod shortly after I was off my board, and they did a U-Turn to check out the pod. At this moment my VHF floated to the surface and I lifted my head and arm up to grab it and that’s when the boat met with my face.. I was able to push off the bottom of the boat and this may have saved my life as I got a little deeper below the outboard engine, the leg and propellor got me down my back and butt – I thought I was gonna bleed out right there. By the grace of God, the worst of my injury consists of minor propellor cuts, stitches, broken L1, hairline fractured L10, L11, & L12 along with a body that feels bruised from head to toe. Never been so thankful to FEEL, even if it is pain. I can feel, I have sensation and that pain means I can HEAL!! Nothing but love for all involved and I ask for everyone to share that same aloha to all parties in this accident.”
Despite the severity of the accident, Schweitzer’s resilience and positive attitude have shone through. Friends, family, and fans have rallied around him, offering their support and well-wishes for a speedy recovery. Schweitzer himself has remained optimistic, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and emphasizing his determination to recover fully and return to the water.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about boating safety, highlighting the importance of taking precautions even for experienced athletes like Schweitzer. As he recovers, the water sports community continues to send their thoughts and prayers, hopeful that Zane Schweitzer will make a full recovery and be back doing what he loves soon.
Despite Zanes recovery we will not be able to see him competing in this years Maui2Molokai and Molokai2Oahu SUP Foil Races.
The team of the Stand Up Magazin is whishing him well and all the best on the road to recovery.
Zane is doing good work for the Maui community and we are regularly reporting on it.
