SUP World Rankings Mid Summer Update

We did not post any SUP World Rankings since after the EURO TOUR in Barcelona. With the lack of bigger races we decided to take a summer break and let things play out until we have another look at the worlds top 10 list.

Now that we are at the end of June and look back at a busy month with smaller races or races that did not score high on the SWR Index it is time to have a closer look again.

Men Longdistance

Donato Freens raced to more times since Barcelona and built a solid lead ahead of everybody. Since we do not foresee any 4 or 5 star races in the near future we might just call right here. The only next events we see with a big star rating will be the ISA and the ICF until then Donato is in a safe space. The Japanese Powerpaddlers have not been scoring since Barcelona and remain in their places just like Filippo Mercuriali, except he races at the L’Etrusca SUP Race where he won but the points were not enough to move up.

A bit further back we do see some movement where Blue Ewer climbed 3 spots with a good result at the EURO TOUR Nordhausen. This pushed Aaron Sanchez one spot down. New in the top ten is Germanies Ole Schwarz who did well in Nordhausen. Sadly we have not seen Michael Booth racing since Barcelona either which cost him 2 spots. From what we gather on social media, he just had a baby and we might assume that we wont see much of him until the end of his maternity leave in Sarasota at the ICF.

Another newcomer in the top 10 is Eri Tonoria from Brazil who won the Saquarema Aloha Spirit race in his home country. Meanwhile Bode von Allmen has not been scoring since The Lake Rocks and is now busy trying to safe The Gorge Paddle Challenge. (We will have a story on this soon)

Women Longdistance

Marie Carmen Rivera remains on top with her 2nd place in Barcelona but Esperanza is catching up. He win at the Arnoia SUP Challenge gave her some points but not enough for an over take of Marie Carmen but enough to push Juliette DuHaime one spot down.

Next notable movement are in the second half where Claudia Postiglione and Iona Rivet are coming in new. Both of them made podium at their races: Claudia at the EURO TOUR in Germany and Iona at the Pornichet Glisse Trophy. These moves came at the expense of Alab Freys position who got moved down 2 spots. Anais Guyomarch won the ahead of but ended only up in 9th as Iona counts one more race than her and some extra points. Melanie Lafenetre who we know as a very strong paddler entered the top 10 with her victory at the legendary SUP Race Cup in St. Maxime.

Men Tech Race

This division is kind of interesting, despite a low activity we see quite a bit of changes. The top 2 paddlers did not move but Rai Taguchi won a local Tech. Race in Japan. The big movement comes from Sergio Cantoral who moved up 5 spots pushing many people down. Itzel Delgado also moved up 2 spots with his result at the SUP Addict Champs. Most others ware seen last in Barcelona. Ivan De Frutos Ruiz moved up with his result in Playa Campell. Christian Andersen an athlete who we felt have seen more of in past years entered the top ten with his win at the ECA EURO Champs in Hungary.

Women Tech. Race

There has been very little change as the top half of the list is in very save. Both new entries stem from the ECA SUP Championships in Hungary as well as the one big race in Thailand. Other than that there is not much to report.

Sprint Men

One interesting part in this list is the big difference in points from first to tenth and illustrates how many more points can be scored at high indexed races. This is why Cameron Tripney still sits on top with his result in Austria and Andrei Kraitors victory at the ECA sprint did not score high enough to catch Cameron. A notable move was the one by Petrak Ondej who jumped up 6 spots with his 2nd place at the Paddle Fest Machac.

Interestingly enough all three new entries are coming from 3 different races: A second place at the ECA by Phaedon Doukas an 11th place at the Paddle Fest Machac by Ruslan Huseinov and a win at the Snowboardel Paddle Fest by Samuel Peska. Normen Weber keeps loosing ground as he is unfortunately not able to race through the height of the season due to his job with the German military.

Women Sprint

Marta Apanasewicz takes over the top with her 3rd place at the ECA in Hungary. We must note that we have not been reporting numbers in a month and Marta was busy with other races such as the Silesia SUP CUP where she made podium in all three disciplines. Kyriaki Logothetis 2nd place in Hungray moved here up 4 spots pushing the rest of the field down. Linda Syrovatkova entered the top ten via the Paddle Fest Machac where she was fourth. Notable it is also nice to seen Natalia Novitskayas name on the list. The talented Russian paddler has been off the radar until the ECA Race in Hungary. We sure would love to see more of her and can only imagine how difficult it must be for her not being able to compete on a global scale because of the senseless war kicked off by the dictator of her country.
