The ICF SUP World Championships turned out to be a great success. For one reason because the general public got to be part of it via youtube and Facebook and for the reason that the spectators got to enjoy a great production and entertaining commentary.
Another great aspect was the performance of the athletes. We had the 50+ men division beeing very competitive with Peter Weidert getting 2 gold medals and one silver. We had Daniel Parres who got the gold in the Tech. Race. taking Peters chance to get 2 gold medals. The junior division was also very exciting, we did see Claudia Postiglione taking the gold from junior star Cecilia Pampinella and in the Junior Boys Sprint Arip PURNAMA from Indonesia beating Vaic Garioud.
In the open division the absolute nail biter was the Mens Open Tech. final. Not because Connor Baxter won but mostly because the things that happened behind him. Three big podium contenders did have bad luck or call it what ever you want, they were self inflicted mistakes that allowed Connor to pull through the entire course without any hassle.
Lastly the ICF did something nobody saw coming: They gave SUP Foiling a platform and get to claim to have been the first organization to have done so.
In this video we talk all about it and relive the great moments.
