ISA SUP World Championships

If you subscribe to the newsletter from the ISA and happen to read it thoroughly you might have the tiny statement about them having an SUP World Championships in Puerto Rico:

This was found almost on the bottom of the newsletter:

Additional highlights of the ISA AGM included:

·     A report by ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, on the ISA’s Olympic relations, including Surfing’s debut at Tokyo 2020, a qualification process update for Paris 2024. He also presented his top presidential goals: ambitions for surfing’s long-term Olympic inclusion looking ahead to Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 as well as access to the Olympic Games funding distribution, alongside the other sports participating in all Olympic Games.

·     Global national membership support for Stand Up Paddle (SUP) and the ISA’s plan to campaign for the discipline to be included in future editions of Continental and Olympic Games;

·     Reports on ISA Athletes’ Commission, Medical Commission, Anti-Doping, Sustainability and Development, including Para Surfing

·     The ISA President also announced the hosting of the 2022 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships in Puerto Rico. (see separate press release)

Looks like Chris Parker from SUPracer found it first and wrote an article about it.

In this video we try to break down the situation and also talk about the cultural shift in the SUP sport and how the surf world might be about to loose their grip on SUP.
