The Lake Rocks 2026: One of the World’s Largest SUP Events Set to Kick Off
In just about one month, possibly the world’s largest SUP event will kick off for the sixth time. The Lake Rocks SUP Festival at Lake Faak in Austria once again draws a massive crowd of stand-up paddling enthusiasts.
We took a closer look at the impressive list of participants and counted 472 male paddlers, ranging from the 60+ age group down to the junior division (U12). On the women’s side, there are 315 female paddlers, from U12 up to the Kahuna class (60+).
This brings the total to an impressive 787 paddlers (as of April 8).

Big moment back in 2024: Young gun Donato Freens crosses the finish line ahead of the legendary Michael Booth.
This year paddle enthusiasts can book “Boothy” for clinics and private lessons and learn from one of the best in the SUP Sport.
Booth Training Clinics Confirmed
Michael Booth will also be on site, offering coaching sessions:
“I’m looking forward to running two BOOTH Training clinics at the Lake Rocks Paddle Festival, with a strong focus on helping paddlers head into race weekend better prepared, more confident, and ready to perform.”
That’s how he announced it on his website.
ICF Ranking Points and Prize Money Attract Elite Athletes
As in previous years, the races are part of the ICF SUP World Cup Ranking System, attracting not only hobby paddlers but also a lineup of ambitious elite athletes competing for prize money and valuable ranking points.
The 2026 prize money structure offers the potential for top athletes to take home up to €3,500 across disciplines.

Men’s Field: Light Competition for Shrimpy?
Looking at the current Open division start list, the level of competition appears relatively light—for now.
Out of 32 registered Open men, only a handful of names stand out as serious contenders. Besides Donato Freens (NED), the main competition comes from Spain, including:
- Manuel Hoyuela
- Aaron Sanchez
- Sergio Cantoral
- Marc Simoncelli
Outside of these names, only Filippo Mercuriali has made a noticeable impact on the international stage.
This could position Shuri “Shrimpy” Araki, currently the world’s fastest paddler, as a strong favorite—if the field doesn’t deepen in the coming weeks.
Women’s Field: Duna Gordillo Leading So Far
A similar picture emerges on the women’s side.
Among the 20 registered Open women, Duna Gordillo stands out as the strongest athlete so far. If the lineup remains unchanged, she could be looking at a very favorable race weekend.
What’s surprising is the absence of several big names, including:
- Csillag Kocsis
- Cecilia Pampinella
- Esperanza Barreras
- MarieCarmen Rivera
Just to name a few….
With more than a month to go, there is still time—and expectation—for more elite athletes to enter the race.
If you are a professional paddler and did not sign up: 👉 You are leaving money on the table.
The Masters 40+ class promises to be competitive as well with Germanys Normen Weber up front. Looking at the 50+ divison with the men its where it is really at. Peter Weidert, The German Giant, is once again the favorite in the Longdistance Race, but he wil have competition with people like Marc Soler from Spain, Paolo Nardini from Italy and Szabo Gabor from Hungary. We are looking forward to see the Senior Class Racing as much as the Elites.
