Abu Dhabi to Host GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2025 Finale at Fahid Island Watersports Festival
Abu Dhabi is set to make history this autumn as it welcomes the GWA Wingfoil World Cup for the first time, hosting the 2025 FreeFly Slalom season finale at the stunning Fahid Island. Taking place from 28 October to 2 November, this major event will bring together the world’s top wingfoil athletes to crown the new men’s and women’s world champions.
The high-stakes competition headlines the Fahid Island Watersports Festival, a vibrant nine-day celebration of water-based sports powered by a strategic collaboration between Aldar, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, AD Ports Group, and the GWA Wingfoil World Tour.
Abu Dhabi: A New Global Hub for Watersports
As the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its position as a world-class destination for sports, adventure, and lifestyle tourism. Fahid Island—developed by Aldar—is emerging as the emirate’s newest coastal gem, offering pristine shorelines and unique experiences that blend wellness, sport, and culture.
World Champions Eye Hat-Trick Titles
Leading the field are two-time defending world champions Nia Suardiaz (Spain) and Francesco Cappuzzo (Italy), who enter the finale at the top of the rankings. With the title still up for grabs, both will need peak performances to clinch their third consecutive world titles.
In the men’s division, French rivals Bastian Escofet and Julien Rattotti are tied in points and ready to challenge Cappuzzo, while Italy’s Alessandro Tomasi remains a dark horse following a strong showing in Fuerteventura.
On the women’s side, Suardiaz leads the charge, but France’s Kylie Belloeuvre, a two-time runner-up this season, is determined to upset the standings. Spain’s Mar de Arce and Austria’s Viola Lippitsch also remain in close contention.
More Than Just Wingfoiling
In addition to world-class FreeFly Slalom Wingfoil racing, the Fahid Island Watersports Festival will feature:
- SFT Surf Foil World Tour (E-Foil and Wake Foil)
- Back-to-back GKA Kite World Cups in Hydrofoil Big Air and Freestyle
- The Freestyle season opener with a €110,000 prize purse across all disciplines
With live global streaming, immersive fan experiences, and thrilling competition, the festival is poised to elevate Fahid Island as a must-visit watersports destination on the global stage.
