Lakeventure 2025: Pump Foil world elite as guests at Lake Traunsee
At the tenth edition of the Lakeventure, the Rindbach area in Ebensee was transformed into a Mecca for foil fans. The Surf Foil World Tour stopped off in Austria for the first time – with spectacular pump foil action on Lake Traunsee. The opening event on Saturday offered sunshine, perfect conditions and exciting competitions.
Premiere in Austria: Pump Foil World Cup on Lake Traunsee
Pump Foil is one of the most challenging foil disciplines of all: the athletes get their hydrofoils to glide using muscle power alone – without any wind or waves. They only keep the board above the surface of the water by moving their legs quickly. This combination of endurance, technique and speed is what makes this young trend sport so appealing.
The fact that the Surf Foil World Tour 2025 is now also coming to Austria underlines the growing importance of the sport. The Pump Foil World Cup Traunsee is also the grand finale of this year’s tour.
Pure excitement in the women’s final
The focus is on 17-year-old Viola Lippitsch from Vienna, who is currently leading the overall women’s rankings. Although her start in the first round was not ideal, she was able to improve her performance over the course of the day:
“It wasn’t how I imagined it at the start, but things went much better in the afternoon. Tomorrow I’ll give everything to win the title,” explained Lippitsch.
Her strongest rival is Switzerland’s Sarah Spalinger, currently ranked third in the world, who won the first final on Saturday to close the gap. Katrin Kolo, also from Switzerland, will be another top athlete in the race on Sunday – this promises to be a thrilling duel for the title.
Men’s field with international class
The men’s race was also very exciting: 22 athletes competed in Ebensee. After exciting timed heats, the twelve fastest qualified for the Pro Division – including seven Austrians. The favorites prevailed in the end, but everything is still wide open, especially in the battle for second place. Switzerland’s Robert Von Roll defended his place with a strong performance, while Vorarlberg’s Jurij Scheibler is hot on his heels.
A global tour with a historic finale
Over seven international stops in Germany, the USA (Pensacola & Atlanta), France, Italy (Sicily & Lake Garda) and Austria, the athletes battled for the title in wind, waves and on mirror-smooth water. The grand finale on Lake Traunsee in Austria provided the perfect conditions for an unforgettable showdown.
