Not only the SUP season is in full swing but also the wing foil season as well. Not only do we have a wing foil festival in the far north of Germany but also the 2nd tour stop of the GWA in the well known “Wind Destination” of lake Silvaplana. We are looking forward to some great wing action up in the Swiss alps. Looking at the starter list we see that as of right now the GWA is mostly a European affair and because we were not able to spot too many riders from overseas. Also for sure is that we need more girls competing as we are looking at 51 male riders and 11 female riders. Regardless this will be an amazing event as we are all looking forward to see some of the best in the world battling it out in Silvaplana. With this being said we are handing the word over to the official press release of the GWA:

Tuesday morning began with 51 men and 11 women attending Riders Registration whilst we patiently waited for the thermal winds to kick in. 

As of 10.30am the wind came so it was full steam ahead to get the Women’s Surf-Freestyle rounds underway and on the water with 10-11 hours worth of Surf-Freestyle to get through at this event across the men’s and women’s competitions.

PAULA NOVOTNA (CZE) V  NIA SUARDIAZ (ESP)

Czech rider Paula Novotna put on a sublime performance from start to finish during day one of the GWA Wingfoil World Cup. Landing big tricks earned high scores from the judges in each of her heats and this is a well-deserved first title win for Paula who came off the water after battling it out in the final against Leucate winner Nia Suardiaz. Suardiaz came up just short in the final with a heat score of 19, narrowly losing out to Paula’s 21.8 in what was a thrilling encounter.

MEN’S SURF FREESTYLE

The action continued directly after the women’s competition. The wind was blowing and with no sign of stopping the event, the crew put their foot on the gas and got underway. 

It’s still early stages with plenty of rounds to take place but Balz Mȕller pulled off the highest trick of the day in his opening heat. He scored a whopping 8.67 with the famous Radiculo 720!  The men’s action was called to a halt once the thermal wind subsided in late afternoon however the crew was able to finish round 3 heats so we’ll be starting from Round 4 later on in the week.
