We are in the midst of SUP-Raceseason and that is what dominates the news across the online SUP-Media, but… this weekend after two great races at the Maliko Run, a Stand Up Paddle Surfing contest was held at the Lahaina Harbor at the “other” side of Maui, far from the “Downwinder Capital” of the world: The Lahaina Hana Ho’opihoihoi.
Whats amaizing on Maui, is that if you call for a local contest it automatically becomes a contest where the contenders are not only local heros but also international SUP-Athletes. This weekend as not much different, Stand Up World Series and Tour contenders Connor Baxter, Zane Schweitzer and Kody Kerbox showed up for the contest and it was almost a given to see all of them on the podium in a somewhat usual order… think again. This weekend a local talent left all the internationals behind him, so we suggest you remember this name: Noah Yap. Noah has not had much appearance on the international stage of SUP Surfing or SUP Racing but we are sure this will change in the near future, at least what SUP Surfing concerns. Racing seems not to be Noah’s main passion.

Die ganze Welt steckt tief in der SUP-Racesaison. Aber letztes Wochenende war ein kleiner Stand Up Paddle Surfing Contest an der Seite von Maui wo sonst nicht so viel über SUP gesprochen wird: In Lahaina an Mauis idyllischer West Side.
Nicht grosse der Rede wert sollte man denken, wir sind alle mit unseren 14’ und 12’6“er Boards unterwegs wen kümmerst wenn ein paar Jungs SUP-Surfen gehen. Klar der Hype gehört den Rennen, aber wenn auf Maui ein kleiner Lokaler Contest ausgerufen wird, wird dieser Contest flux zum Aufmarsch der Internationalen SUP-Stars. So war dieses Wochenende unter den gut 40 SUP Surfern auch Connor Baxter, Kody Kerbox und Zane Schweitzer mit dabei. Dazu auch noch Kai Lenny jüngerer Bruder Ridge welcher ebenfalls Ambitionen hat für eine grosse SUP Zukunft. Die Überraschung war dann aber perfekt, als eben nicht ein SUP Star der Stand Up World Series auf dem Podest stand sondern der noch weniger bekannte Noah Yap. Noah hatte noch nicht viele Auftritte im internationalen SUP Geschehen, wir schlagen aber vor, dass ihr euch diesen Namen schon mal vormerkt. Es gibt nicht viele die besser auf der Welle sind als Zane Schweitzer. Noah gewann den Contest verdient mit vielen Airs und radikalen Manövern und gewann dazu noch ein Longboard von JUCKER HAWAI’I mit dem Design von Sonni Hönscheid ebenfalls bekannt für ihre Manöver auf der Welle.
