Falls ihr einmal im Leben ein “Open Ocean” SUP Rennen auf Hawaii bestreiten wollt, das Molokai2Oahu aber zu kompliziert und zuweit ist, dann ist das Maui2Molokai SUP Rennen genau das richtige. Das Maui2Molokai Rennen ist weitaus kleiner, 10 Meilen kürzer und man braucht auch kein Begleitboot.
Und…ihr es gibt auch die Möglichkeit sich mit der Weltelite zu messen wie die Fotos vom letzten Jahr beweisen, als Connor Baxter das Rennen zum 3. Mal vor Travis Grant gewann.
Die einzige Herausforderung ist die Wiederkehr nach Maui, denn die Fähre von Molokai nach Maui nimmt keine SUPs an Bord. Es gibt aber genügend Boote welche den Rücktransport von SUPs nach Maui organisieren.
Wer also im July auf Hawaii ist und “Downwinder” das Geilste findet der sollte sich dieses Rennen merken.

If a “Hawaiian Channel Crossing SUP Race” is on your bucket list, but the Molokai2Oahu is too much of an undertaking the Maui2Molokai it the one race not to miss:
Handsome Bugga Productions announces the 4th annual World Cup of Stand Up Paddle, better know as the Maui2Molokai, the little brother of the Molokai2Oahu so to speak. Other than the Kaiwi Channel in the Molokai2Oahu, this race is 10 miles shorter but wind speeds in the Pailolo Channel are known to be the highest in the state of Hawaii. Insiders have known it for a long time, but this downwinder from Honolua Bay to Kaunakakai Harbor is probably one of the best in the world.
If you are already in Hawaii for the “Downwinder” season, this is the race to go to. This race requires no escort boat and with 26miles to the finish line, it is also doable for weekend warriors.
There is also a bit of price money: $2500.- will be distributed between the 1. – 3rd Place in Stock, Unlimited and Women.
Getting back from Molokai to Maui can be a bit of a challenge, but there are plenty boats that can take boards back to Maui and racers can catch the evening ferry back to Maui. (Just a shame they won’t take boards.) Or stay on Molokai and continue on 2 Weeks later on the Molokai2Oahu.
